Installation Hold
While a site is being installed, technicians trip detectors and test panics all day. An installation hold stops the control room acting on those signals: dispatch is suppressed for the whole site, and every signal is still received and logged.
The Installation hold card sets how long that hold lasts when your control room places one. It is 2 hours unless you change it.
Accessing the setting
- Navigate to Settings in the sidebar.
- Under Operations in the Settings navigation, click General.
- Scroll to the Installation hold card, below the App panic card.
Like the Control room clock, it is not gated behind Advanced Alarm Handling — every control room that adds a site places a hold. Typing installation or hold alarms in Find a setting… also lands on General.
Choosing a length
Pick a length in Hold alarms for and click Save. The choices are 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 or 24 hours, and 2, 3, 7 or 14 days. 2 hours is marked as the default.
Only a company owner or admin can save it. Anyone else who tries sees "Only a company owner or admin can change this."
What it applies to
Your control room's hold length is used every time a hold is placed or extended:
- Add a site — the Hold alarms while it is being installed option under More options on the first screen. The length is shown in brackets. See Create a site.
- Start installation on a site's state card, under Monitoring → Scheduling.
- Extend on the same card, which adds one more hold length to the hold's current end.
- Onboarding journeys that pre-stage a site to be installed. See Onboarding.
Changing the length does not touch a hold that is already running — it keeps the end time it was given. End it early with End installation on the site's state card.
A hold also ends the moment the site's installation job is signed off — see Ending it.
