Telephony
The Telephony entry only appears in the Settings navigation (under Operations) when the control room has the Advanced Alarm Handling module on (super admins in Super-admin mode always see it). See Modules & Capabilities.
The Telephony entry is where all of a control room's calling configuration lives. CleverCommand operators only consume these settings — they place calls, but they don't configure telephony. You'll find it under Settings → Telephony, in the Operations group (with a control room selected).
Calling methods
The top of the tab lists every calling method and its status:
| Method | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Manual | The operator dials on their device — the OS phone app, or the custom dial link below | Always Available |
| Virtual phone | In-browser softphone (Twilio) — operators talk to keyholders from the browser | Enabled / Not set up |
| AI phone — Conversational | Live AI agent (Vapi) verifies the keyholder | Enabled / Off |
| AI phone — Pre-recorded | Recorded prompt + keypad/voice password (Twilio AI) | Enabled / Off |
Manual dial link
By default the Manual flow opens the operating system's tel: handler. If the control room runs a desk softphone (3CX, Zoiper, MicroSIP, Bria…) or an on-site PBX, set a custom dial link here and CleverCommand's Manual calls — and the clickable numbers on the Call List — will launch it instead.
Write a URL template with a placeholder for the number:
| Placeholder | Becomes |
|---|---|
{number} | the number in E.164 (e.g. +27821234567) |
{raw} | the number exactly as stored on the contact |
{number_enc} | URL-encoded E.164 (use inside an https query string) |
Examples: sip:{number}@pbx.local, microsip:{number}, callto:{number}, https://pbx.local/click2call?dest={number_enc}. Leave it blank to use the device's default phone app. https://… links open in a new tab; every other scheme is handed to the operating system's handler.
Any VCR administrator can set the Manual dial link. Provisioning the softphone, toggling AI tiers, and pricing are super-admin only (below).
Super-admin: managed softphone
When Super-admin mode is on, an extra section appears for the managed in-browser softphone. CleverCam runs a dedicated Twilio subaccount per control room (the per-VCR meter), so calls are billed back to the VCR with a markup.
Provision
Provision softphone creates the control room's Twilio subaccount, an API key, and a TwiML app (wired to the outbound voice endpoint) in one step. Provide an outbound caller-ID (an E.164 Twilio number on the account) — the softphone is only switched on once a caller-ID is set. Optionally tick buy a local number to have one purchased automatically (requires a Twilio regulatory bundle for the country).
Providers
Toggles enable/disable each AI tier (Vapi, Twilio AI) and the virtual phone for this control room.
Resale pricing
Set the per-minute rate and a monthly admin fee (both in Rand). These feed the control room's wholesale bill — the softphone's metered minutes × your rate, plus the admin fee, appear as line items on the VCR's billing breakdown.
Usage
A table shows recent months' call count, billed minutes, and raw Twilio cost per month, plus this month's bill. Usage is metered from the subaccount automatically.
The virtual phone can't place calls without a caller-ID. If you provision without one, the softphone stays Not set up until you add a caller-ID and save.
