Technician Access Windows
A technician access window is a time-boxed permission slip for a site. While a window is open, your registered technicians can tap Start work in their app and temporarily appear on that site — they can see the cameras, hubs, and panels they are there to work on, without being added as a permanent site member.
Access is temporary by design:
- The technician joins with the special technician role — hidden from the site's call list, with all notifications off.
- Access expires automatically when the window ends (a nightly sweep also removes any expired technician memberships).
- The technician can leave early with End work, and the customer or an operator can end the window early at any time.
Three ways a window opens
| Opened by | Where | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| The customer | CleverAlert → More → Site Settings → Technician access (site owners and admins) | Their choice, default 8 hours |
| An operator | CleverOps → site → Overview tab → Site state & scheduled changes card → Open technician window (8h) | 8 hours |
| An assigned service job | Automatic — any technician assigned to an active job on the site can Start work without an explicit window. CleverTech redeems this one on its own: starting the job (or tapping Arrived) grants the access automatically | 8 hours from starting work |
Opening a window again while one is still open extends it rather than stacking a second one.
Which company the window is addressed to
Every window is addressed to one company (VCR) — only that company's active technicians can redeem it:
- On a site managed by a primary company, windows are always addressed to the primary. Other companies' windows are rejected.
- On a self-managed site (no primary), the customer picks the company in CleverAlert from a list of companies that have registered technicians. The operator path opens the window for your own company.
The operator control
On the site's Overview tab, the Site state & scheduled changes card has a Technician access row under Installation:
- No open window — an Open technician window (8h) button opens one for your company (confirmation required).
- Window open — a badge shows the company and expiry time, with a bin button to end the access early. Ending a window also removes any technicians currently working under it (unless they hold an active assigned job on the site, which grants access on its own).
What the technician sees
In CleverAlert, a registered technician gets a Technician section on the More tab (invisible to everyone else). It lists each site with an open window or an active assigned job — each row shows the site, the job number and title where one applies, and a Start work button, which becomes End work once they are working. Starting work adds the site to their app until the window expires; ending work removes it immediately.
Automatic from CleverTech
For assigned service jobs, the technician normally never needs the button: CleverTech grants and ends the access automatically as they work the job:
- Start (or Resume) on the job, or tapping Arrived, starts work on the site — by the time they open CleverAlert, the site is already there.
- Signing off (or cancelling) the job ends the access again — unless they still have another active job on the same site, in which case access stays until that job is done too.
The automatic calls are best-effort and need connectivity: in a dead zone nothing is granted (or ended), the job flow itself is unaffected, and the More-tab Start work button remains the manual path. A missed end simply expires with the window.
Technician memberships never show up in the site's Manage Users list or call order — they are service access, not site membership. A technician who is also a regular member of the site (for example the owner doing their own maintenance) keeps their normal membership; Start work simply tells them no technician access is needed.
