Global Trackers

The Global Trackers page is a super-admin-only surface for provisioning the GPS trackers CleverCam supplies and issuing them to control rooms. CleverCam buys the tracker hardware and its managed SIM, then a super admin assigns each device to a company/VCR (and, for resale devices, to a consumer's site). Control-room members manage a tracker's operational fields afterwards, but only a super admin can bring a new tracker into the system.

Accessing Global Trackers

  1. Sign in with a super admin account.
  2. Activate Super Admin mode via the sidebar toggle.
  3. Click Super Admin in the sidebar (only visible while Super Admin mode is on), then open the Trackers tab.
Super-admin only

Provisioning is restricted in two places: the page verifies you are a super admin with Super Admin mode on, and the underlying provision_tracker operation re-checks super-admin server-side. Control-room members never see the provisioning controls.

The two tracker categories

Each category has its own monthly price (see Monthly price per tracker below). The category is chosen when the tracker is provisioned.

Stats

Cards summarise the fleet: total trackers, Fleet count, Resale count, how many have a SIM, and how many devices are detected but unclaimed.

Monthly price per tracker

A panel sets the global Fleet and Resale monthly price (in Rand). These feed the CleverCam → VCR billing breakdown; a tracker only produces a ledger line once its category price is above R0. Per-VCR overrides can be applied for a specific control room.

Detected / unclaimed devices

When a tracker reports telemetry before it has been provisioned, it appears here with its IMEI, brand, when it was last seen, and how many times it has reported. Its telemetry is dropped until it is claimed. Click Claim to open the provisioning form pre-filled with that IMEI — or, better, provision the device's SIM from Global SIMs: a provisioning run claims a detected device automatically the moment it matches, with no typing.

Provisioned trackers

A searchable, filterable table of every tracker (filter by company or category, or search by IMEI / label). Each row shows the IMEI, label, category, owner (VCR + company for fleet; site + reselling VCR for resale), SIM status, the monthly price, last-seen time, and status. Reassign moves the tracker to a different owner; Decommission stops billing and cancels the SIM.

Provisioning a tracker

The SIM-first flow is the recommended way — especially in bulk

Global SIMs → Provision sends the device its configuration SMS, waits for it to connect, and creates the tracker under the chosen owner automatically — SIM already linked, nothing typed by hand. The manual form below remains for devices configured outside CleverOps or with unmanaged SIMs.

  1. Click Provision tracker (or Claim on a detected device).
  2. Enter the IMEI.
  3. Choose the category — Fleet or Resale.
  4. Pick the company and control room (VCR). For Resale, also pick the consumer site the VCR monitors (this is who the device protects; the VCR is still the party billed).
  5. Optionally add a label, vehicle registration, brand/model, and the managed SIM details (ICCID, MSISDN, carrier, APN, data plan).
  6. Click Provision tracker. The device is created, its SIM recorded, and any matching detected-device entry is cleared.
SIMs recorded here also appear on Global SIMs

The SIM details entered while provisioning join the Global SIMs registry, which covers every data SIM CleverCam manages — trackers, hubs and receiver gateways alike. Use that page to see a SIM's data balance, apply its device class's data policy, or check whether it is still in the device it was issued to.

Once provisioned, the control room manages the tracker from Equipment → Trackers; the CleverCam charge for it appears on that VCR's Settings → CleverCam subscription breakdown.

Reassigning a tracker

Provisioning creates a tracker; Reassign moves one that already exists. Use it whenever a device changes hands — a fleet tracker moving between two of a company's control rooms, or a fleet device being sold on to a consumer as a resale unit.

  1. Find the tracker in Provisioned trackers and click Reassign.
  2. The form opens on where the tracker sits today. Change the category, company, control room (VCR) and — for Resale — the consumer site.
  3. The panel at the bottom spells out exactly what the move will do before you commit.
  4. Click Reassign tracker. The button stays disabled while nothing has actually changed.

What a reassign does:

  • Moves ownership to the chosen control room (or site, for resale).
  • Moves the monthly CleverCam charge to the new owner from that moment. There is no proration — the whole of the current month bills to the new owner.
  • Leaves the SIM in place, still active, still online. Telemetry and history are untouched.
  • Unfits the tracker from its vehicle if the VCR changed, because vehicles belong to a single control room. The new owner re-fits it from their own Vehicles page.
Never release the SIM to move a tracker

It looks like the way to hand a device over, and it quietly breaks things. Releasing the SIM only cuts the registry link — the tracker keeps running on that SIM while CleverOps shows it as having no SIM. Provisioning it again to the new owner cannot recover it either: provisioning only ever creates a tracker and rejects an IMEI that already exists, so the new job sits waiting for a device that will never re-announce itself, and expires.

CleverOps now blocks this: a provisioning run against a SIM that sits in an already-provisioned tracker is rejected up front and points you here. Reassign is the only correct way to change a tracker's owner.

Decommissioning

Decommission on a tracker row sets the tracker's status so it stops appearing on the VCR's CleverCam ledger and cancels its current SIM. Use this when hardware is returned or retired.
