Owners
Company Settings → Owners is deliberately the smallest screen in CleverOps. It does one thing: it decides who owns the company.
Everything else a team member has — their seat in each control room, their app access, their roles, how they sign in, their field work and their compliance — is on that person's workspace under People. One human, one screen.
It carried a member list, an invite flow, a per-workspace permissions editor, transfer and remove. That meant the same human was managed here, on People, and in the invite flow — three screens for one person, which is what made staff admin feel like back-and-forth. All of it moved onto the person. Only ownership stayed, for the reasons below. Old links to ?tab=team land on Owners.
Why ownership is separate
Ownership is not "a bigger admin". It is a different kind of grant:
- It is ambient. An owner reaches every control room the company owns, including rooms created later. Every other grant in CleverOps is scoped to a room you can point at.
- It is rare and it is dangerous. There are roughly 46 owners across the whole platform. Appointing one is not an action that belongs on the same screen a supervisor uses to tick app access for a relief guard on a Saturday.
- It is the only tier that can appoint itself. Owners appoint owners, and owners appoint company admins. Nobody else can — and nobody, owner included, can change their own tier.
Who can see and change this
| You are | You see | You can change |
|---|---|---|
| Company owner | The owner list | Everything on this page |
| Super admin with super-admin mode on | The owner list | Everything on this page |
| Company admin | The owner list, read-only | Nothing here |
Viewing owners
The panel lists every owner with their name and email address, and marks your own row (you).
A company can have several owners — three already do — and any owner can remove any other, including the one who appointed them. That is why "add an owner" and "hand over ownership" are two different actions rather than the same one worded twice.
Adding an owner
An owner is promoted from inside the company, never invited from outside:
- Pick an existing company admin from the dropdown under Add an owner.
- Click Make owner.
- The confirmation spells out what they gain — every capability in every control room, including rooms created later, and the power to appoint and remove other owners, including you.
Their per-room company-admin stamps are cleared at the same moment, because ownership already covers everything an admin has. Nobody is ever both.
If nobody is a company admin yet, the panel says so instead of offering an empty dropdown. Admins are made on People, per control room — see Making somebody a company admin.
Removing an owner
Remove — or Step down, on your own row — takes the ownership grant away and leaves the person as a company admin. They stop reaching every room, and keep only what an admin holds in each room they are seated in.
Two things it will not do:
- It will never leave the company without an owner. With only one owner the button is disabled and points you at Hand over instead. The database refuses it as well, so this cannot be worked around.
- It does not remove them from the company. Their seats, login codes, profile, compliance and documents are untouched.
Stepping yourself down is allowed while another owner remains — but only another owner can give it back, and the confirmation says so.
Handing over ownership
Hand over is a clean swap, in one step, for when ownership should move rather than multiply:
- Click Hand over on the owner who is leaving the role. With one owner, that is the only row.
- Choose a company admin to hand it to.
- Confirm. Both halves happen at the same moment: the chosen admin becomes an owner, and the person you started from becomes an ordinary company admin.
You cannot undo this yourself if you handed over your own ownership — only an owner can hand it back.
The button is disabled when there is no company admin to hand to.
Company roles, in one table
| Role | What it means | Set where |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Every capability in every control room this company owns, including rooms created later. Appoints owners and company admins. | Here |
| Company admin | Manages one control room's people, seats, app access, roles and settings. Cannot appoint owners or other admins. Stamped per room, so somebody can administer one room and hold an ordinary seat in another. | People → the person → Roles & access |
| No company role | Everything else — operators, responders, technicians, guards, office staff. What they may do is their seat's roles and app access. | People → the person → Roles & access |
Nobody — owner, admin, operator, technician or responder — can edit their own company role, workspace, member type or linked account. The rule is enforced in the database, not just hidden in the UI. Day-to-day self-updates are unaffected: signing in, going on and off shift, presence and location all still write normally.
If your own standing needs changing, ask another owner.
Everything else
The card at the bottom of the panel links straight to People, because that is where the rest lives:
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Seats in each control room | People → open the person → Roles & access |
| App access (CleverCommand, CleverResponder, Fleet) and roles | People → Roles & access → pick a room |
| Company admin, per control room | People → Roles & access → pick a room → Company admin here |
| How they sign in — codes, PINs, email account | People → Roles & access → under the roles of the room |
| Email invites, and the company join code | People → On their way in |
| Field work, compliance and HR detail | People → Field work / Compliance / Person |
Deleting the company itself is still on the Basic Info tab, in the danger zone, and is blocked until every control room has been removed. See Company Settings.
