Site Fields
Site fields let each control room define its own classification for sites, instead of relying on a fixed built-in list. You decide what the fields are (for example Type or Location), what options they allow, and how deep they go. Operators then pick from those options on each site, and you can filter the Sites list by them.
The point is controlled options: rather than free text (which drifts — "school", "School", "Skool") or an open map lookup, everyone chooses from the same closed list, so the values stay consistent for filtering and reporting.
Site fields are a core feature — every VCR can define and use them, no module required. (On the Sites list they sit alongside the built-in Monitoring and Arm-status filters, also core, plus the Suburb / Branch dispatch filters, which do require Advanced Alarm Handling.)
Site fields are deliberately separate from:
- Patrol suburbs & branches — those can be set manually or worked out automatically from a site's position inside a suburb's geofence, so they aren't a simple stored tag. Site fields are always a value you pick.
- Responder tags — those label people in the team pool, not sites.
Two shapes, one tool
A field owns a tree of options. How deep you nest is up to you:

There's no separate "flat vs hierarchical" setting — a flat field is simply one whose options have no sub-options. Add sub-options under any option to nest another level, as deep as you need.
Configuring site fields
- Go to Settings → Site fields.
- Under Add field, type a name (e.g.
Type) and click Add field. Tick Allow multiple if a site can have more than one value for this field (e.g. a "Features" field); leave it off for single-choice fields like Type. - On the new field card, use Add option to add top-level options (e.g. House, Business, School…). Press Enter to add each one quickly.
- To build a hierarchy, click + Sub on an option to add options beneath it (e.g. under a country, add its branches; under a branch, add its cities). Repeat to any depth.
- Optionally give an option a colour — it shows as a coloured chip wherever the value appears.
- Rename an option or field by editing its text; delete with the × (deleting an option also removes anything nested under it, and deleting a field removes its options and every site's values for it).
Setting values on a site
Open a site (Sites → a site) and find the Site fields card on the Setup view, below the site context flags. Each field shows:
- a single dropdown for a flat field, or cascading dropdowns for a hierarchy — pick down to the level you want (you can stop at any level);
- for a multiple-value field, pick an option and click Add to attach it as a chip; remove a chip with its ×.
The card only appears once the control room has configured at least one field.
Filtering & display on the Sites list
- Every configured field becomes a filter on the Sites page. For a hierarchy, options are shown indented — choosing a higher level (e.g. a city) matches that value and everything nested beneath it (all its suburbs). Each field filter also offers Unset to find sites with no value yet.
- Each site row shows its field values as small chips under the site name, so you can scan classifications at a glance.
