Area Routing
Area Routing lets a control room divide its sites into geographic areas and route work accordingly. Operators set their availability, supervisors assign operators to the areas they cover, and the routing board shows the open-event load of each area against the operators covering it. The event queue can then be filtered by area.
It builds on the areas you define in CleverOps → Areas (where sites are assigned to areas). If no areas exist yet, create them there first.
Open the Area Routing tab on the supervisor toolbox page at /more — it has no sidebar entry, so supervisors browse to the address (Supervisors only, in control rooms with the Advanced Alarm Handling module — why). The tab contains the availability control, the routing board, and the area-assignment editor.
Setting your availability
The My status panel at the top lets you tell the rest of the control room whether you are available to take work:

Your status is separate from whether you are technically online — the routing board shows both, so a supervisor can see who is connected and who is available.
The routing board
Each enabled area is shown as a card with:
- A colour swatch and the area name.
- An open badge — how many open (unclosed) events currently sit in that area. The badge highlights when the area has open events.
- A summary line: how many operators are assigned to the area and how many of them are online.
- A chip for each assigned operator, with an availability dot.
This is the at-a-glance picture of where the work is and who can take it.
Assigning operators to areas (Supervisors)
Supervisors see an Assigned areas editor below the board. Each row is a control-room operator with a set of area chips:
- Find the operator's row.
- Tap an area chip to assign the operator to that area; tap it again to unassign.
- Changes save immediately and the board updates.
An operator can cover any number of areas. Operators only "cover" the areas they are assigned to.
Filtering the queue by area
On the Events page, an All areas dropdown in the header lets you narrow the queue to a single area. The dropdown only appears when your control room has areas with sites assigned. Choosing an area shows only events whose site belongs to that area; choose All areas to clear it. This works alongside the existing text search and section chips — see Filtering Events.
Delegating by area
To hand work to the operator who covers an area:
- On the Events page, filter the queue to the area.
- Open an event and transfer its ownership to an operator who covers that area (the routing board shows who that is and whether they are online and available).
The routing board therefore acts as the "who should take this?" reference, while ownership transfer performs the actual hand-off.
Areas and the sites that belong to them are configured in CleverOps → Areas. Area Routing reads that configuration — it does not create areas or move sites between them.
