Confirming a burglary

When an event turns out to be a real break-in, confirm it as a burglary. This opens a permanent burglary case (numbered like BC-00042) that collects everything about the incident in one file — the frozen event record, alarm images, responder photos and reports, police references and your narrative — and sends it to management's Review Queue → Burglaries in CleverOps, with the final record kept forever in the Burglary Vault.

Advanced Alarm Handling

Burglary casework is part of the Advanced Alarm Handling module. On control rooms without it, the panel described here does not appear.

Confirming

  1. Open the event's detail page.
  2. Press the red Burglary quick action (in the quick-actions row, next to Reaction Arrived and All in Order). It still does what it always did — flags the event as verified with a problem at site and writes the "reported burglary" timeline entry — and on Advanced Alarm Handling control rooms it now also starts the case flow.
  3. The dialog explains what happens next; optionally type what makes this a burglary (it becomes the case narrative) and press Confirm burglary.

The case opens immediately:

  • A case number is issued and shown on the event.
  • The event, site, dispatches and any responder reports are frozen into the case as a permanent snapshot.
  • The event's alarm images and any photos the responder has posted attach to the case automatically — and responder evidence that arrives later (an incident report filed after you confirm) attaches automatically too.
  • A "Burglary confirmed" entry is written to the event timeline, and the event's disposition becomes Confirmed burglary.

Confirming cannot be undone — if it turns out to be wrong, management corrects it at review by reclassifying the case. Everything is audited.

Capturing the details

After confirming, the same dialog becomes the case details form:

  • Police & official record — OB number, SAPS CAS number, police station, investigating officer, officer contact. The OB number here is the one SAPS gives you, not CleverCommand's own Event Reference — on a call to the station you will usually quote both.
  • Incident details — point of entry, items taken, damage, suspect description, and the narrative.
  • Scene photos & documents — Attach photos / documents uploads files straight into the case's evidence vault.

Nothing is required up front — capture what you have and press Save details. Every field you change is logged on the case.

The event page also shows the case card from now on (below the dispatch section): the case number, its stage, which police references are still needed, the evidence count, and Add / edit case details to reopen the form. Pressing the Burglary quick action again reopens the same form — it never creates a second case.

After the event closes — the follow-up window

Police references usually arrive after the event is finished, so a confirmed burglary stays workable after close:

  • The case has a capture window (72 hours by default). While it is open, a slim Burglary casework strip appears at the top of the events board showing the case count and how many still need OB / CAS references. It is collapsed by default so it takes a single line — click it to expand the case chips (your choice is remembered).
  • Click a case chip to reopen the event's detail page and add the missing details or photos, exactly as before.
  • When the window ends (or once you press nothing further), the case simply continues its life in CleverOps — managers can still complete and review it there at any time.

If you're done with the details early, management picks the case up from the Burglaries queue in CleverOps; the case leaves the rail once it is submitted for review or the window ends.

What management sees

In CleverOps (Review Queue → Burglaries), a manager reviews the full case file — your details, the evidence, the responder's incident report, the dispatch history and the activity log — then signs it off as Confirmed burglary, Reclassified — false alarm or Inconclusive. Signed-off cases are archived permanently in the Burglary Vault, where the whole case file can be printed for SAPS or insurers.
