Concentration Mode
Long, quiet stretches are when attention drifts. Concentration Mode gives an operator a quick, low-stakes game to play during a lull — enough to keep their eyes on the screen and their reactions sharp — while guaranteeing they never miss a live event: the game closes itself the instant any new event or signal is routed to that operator, dropping them straight back onto the board with the usual alert sound, toast, and title badge.
It is deliberately conservative. A live event always wins. There is no way for a game to swallow, delay, or mute an alert — the game simply disappears and the board is there.
Turning it on
Concentration Mode is off for every control room by default. It is enabled per control room, not per operator:
- In CleverOps, open Settings → General
- On the Modules & capabilities board, find Operator Concentration Mode
- Toggle it On
Only a VCR administrator can flip this. Until it is on, operators see nothing — no button, no setting.
Once the control room has enabled it, each operator can still hide it just for their own browser from Settings → Concentration Mode in CleverCommand (the switch is on by default). This is a per-workstation preference — it only affects the browser it is set in.
Playing
When Concentration Mode is available and your event queue is empty, a small Focus button appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. While you have any open event the button is hidden — it only shows when there is nothing on your board to work.
- Click Focus during a quiet moment
- Pick a game from the menu:
- Pac-Man — clear the maze, dodge the ghosts, and grab a power pellet to hunt them
- Tetris — stack the falling blocks and clear lines before the well tops out
- Breakout — bounce the ball and smash every brick without letting it slip past your paddle
- Play with the arrow keys (each game shows its own controls at the bottom)
Every game keeps levelling up and getting harder the longer you play, and the layouts are randomised — Pac-Man builds a brand-new maze each level and Breakout a fresh brick pattern — so no two rounds are the same.
Press P to pause, Esc or Close to leave the game, or ← Games to switch to a different one.
What happens when an event arrives
The moment a new event is assigned to you — or a sleeping technical signal wakes because it did not self-heal — the game stands down automatically:
- The game closes and a brief "Signal received" card appears
- After a couple of seconds you are back on the Event Queue
- The normal alert fires in parallel: the alert sound, the in-app toast, the desktop notification, and the title badge all behave exactly as if the game had never been open
- The Focus button stays hidden for as long as you have any open event — even across a page refresh — and only comes back once your queue is clear again
You do not have to do anything to dismiss the game — it gets out of the way for you.
Your progress is kept — resume later
A signal does not throw away your game. The interrupted game is paused and kept exactly where it was. When the Focus button returns and you open the menu again, a Resume banner at the top lets you pick up where you left off. Choosing a game from the cards instead starts a fresh one.
Leaderboard
Concentration Mode keeps an all-time high-score leaderboard, opened from the Leaderboard button in the menu (or the game bar). You can view three scopes for each game:
- You — your own best scores
- This VCR — the best across everyone in your control room
- Global — the best across every control room using CleverCommand
When you finish a game with a score good enough to make a board, a prompt asks you to add a name for the leaderboard. Type any name or handle you like.
The leaderboard shows only the name you type. Your real control-room and operator identity are recorded privately for each score (so scores can be scoped to your VCR and moderated if needed) but are never displayed to anyone.
Concentration Mode does not change how events are handled and cannot interfere with alerts. If your control room prefers not to offer it at all, leave the Operator Concentration Mode switch off in CleverOps.
The Focus button pauses a game whenever the tab is hidden, so nothing runs in the background on a monitor you are not looking at.
