Joining a Community
You cannot search for a community and ask to join it. Someone already in it — a neighbour or the group's administrator — has to send you an invite.
What an invite looks like
An invite arrives as either:
- a link you tap, which opens CleverAlert straight onto the join screen, or
- a six-digit code you type in yourself.
Both do the same thing. The code is there for the times a link will not survive the trip, such as being read out over the phone.
Joining
- Open the More tab.
- Under Communities & news, tap Manage Communities.
- On the Join a community card, tap Join community.
- Paste the invite link, or type the six-digit code, into the Paste invite code or full link box.
- Tap Join.
The app accepts a whole pasted link as happily as a bare code — it pulls the code out for you. If it cannot find one, it says No invite code recognised; check for a missing character and try again.
Joined, or waiting?
What happens next depends on how the community is set up:
- Joined straightaway — you see Joined ‹community name› and it appears under Your communities.
- Waiting for approval — you see Request to join ‹community name› sent. An administrator has to approve you. Until they do, the community shows Waiting for approval and you see no chimes from it.
There is no reminder to send and nothing to re-submit. Once an administrator approves the request, chimes simply start arriving.
If you have no sites yet
If you signed in and had no site and no community, CleverAlert offers Join a community on its welcome screen. That is the same join step, reached earlier — you can belong to a community without owning a camera or having a monitored site at all.
Leaving
- More → Manage Communities.
- Find the community under Your communities.
- Tap Leave community on its row.
- Confirm.
The app warns you first: leaving stops chimes from that community and removes you from it. You will need a fresh invite to come back.
